Multiplication Check
What is the Multiplication Tables Check?
In Year 4, pupils take part in the statutory Multiplication Tables Check (MTC), which is designed to assess their fluency in recalling multiplication facts up to 12 × 12. At Martock Church School, we place a strong emphasis on the development of times tables across all year groups, with a structured and progressive approach beginning in Year 2. Regular practice, alongside daily fluency sessions, ensures that pupils build confidence, accuracy and speed in their recall. This strong foundation supports pupils in approaching the Multiplication Tables Check with confidence and also underpins their wider mathematical learning, including problem solving and reasoning.
