At Martock Church School, the safeguarding and welfare of children is of paramount importance.  Our aim is to safeguard and promote our pupil's welfare, safety, health and guidance by fostering an open, honest, caring and supportive climate.

We recognise that high self-esteem, confidence, supportive friends and clear lines of communication with trusted adults help all children, especially those who are feeling vulnerable.

Everyone working in the school has to be cleared via the disclosure procedure and detailed records are maintained at the school.  Key members from both the governing Body and staff are trained in Safer Recruitment.

We recognise that safeguarding is the responsibility of all adults in the school and all staff and Governors therefore receive appropriate training.

There is a full Safeguarding Policy* (including the E-Safety Policy) available on the website which is reviewed by Governors annually.

Safeguarding through our Curriculum

Safeguarding is a core pillar of our curriculum and central to everything we do as a school. It extends far beyond statutory policies and procedures; it shapes what we teach, how we teach it, and how we expect every member of our community to behave. Our aim is for every child to feel safe, valued and nurtured, so they are confident, resilient and able to thrive.

Safeguarding is woven through daily school life and embedded across the curriculum. Through Jigsaw PSHE, children learn how to recognise risks, develop healthy relationships, understand their emotions, and know how and where to seek help. Our use of Kapow Primary ensures that online safety is explicitly taught, equipping pupils with the knowledge and critical thinking skills they need to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Through No Outsiders, we promote inclusion, respect and equality, helping children to understand diversity and uphold British values in meaningful, age-appropriate ways.

By embedding safeguarding across our curriculum, culture and expectations, we create an environment where children not only learn about safety, but experience it every day through positive relationships, clear boundaries and a shared commitment to care and respect.
